GitHub Copilot Pro application pending, then Student Developer Pack revoked is that an expected behavior? #183982

Question I previously had access to the GitHub Student Developer Pack, which included Copilot, but my student benefits were later revoked (likely due to eligibility verification). After that, I applied for Copilot Pro as an individual and waited for the review/activation, but the application stayed pending and I’m now unsure how the revocation of the Student Pack affects Copilot Pro eligibility. My questions are: Does a revoked Student Developer Pack automatically block or delay Copilot Pro activation? Is there a manual review step for Copilot Pro applications in this case? Should I reapply or contact GitHub Support directly, and if so, under which category? I want to make sure I’m following the correct process and not stuck due to a stale eligibility state. |

This is expected behavior ( happened to me twice ), and the two things are handled separately. When the Student Developer Pack is revoked, GitHub removes all student-linked benefits immediately, including free Copilot access. That revocation itself does not permanently block Copilot Pro, but it can leave your account in a temporary “eligibility transition” state. What typically works (and worked for me): Wait a short period , re-apply after the Student Pack revocation so the account state fully updates. If it stays pending, open a GitHub Support ticket under Billing → Copilot and explain that your student benefits were revoked and you want to proceed with Copilot Pro as an individual. Once support reviews it, Copilot Pro is either activated or you’re prompted to subscribe directly without issues. So in short: |
