When I'm trying to read a source file in a GitHub repository, using the system browser on iPhone or iPad, the page view sometimes jumps back to the top of the page, for no obvious reason.

This bug happens frequently enough that reading code on GitHub has become impossible.

I'm not interacting with the page in any way, other than scrolling up or down to view different parts of it.

EDIT: After some more testing, I'm fairly confident that what actually triggers this bug is any change in window size. It just happens to be very easy to trigger while scrolling on mobile, because most mobile browsers will enlarge or shrink their browser UI (which affects the window size) in response to common scroll gestures.

After some more experimentation, the bug seems most likely to occur when trying to scroll up.

I have the same problem when trying to read the markdown rendering of https://github.com/yijunyu/rust-project-goals/blob/crate-slicing-goal/src/2026h1/crate-slicing.md on both Android Firefox and Android Chrome.

I have found that the teleport bug also triggers when scrolling down from the top of the page.

The downward scroll gesture is abruptly interrupted by a viewport jump to near the top of the page.

And it's more likely to happen the faster you scroll.

Some more actions that trigger the bug:

• Rotating the device
• Interacting with the browser’s URL bar, tabs, or other UI
• On iPad, activate Split View to show another app alongside the browser
• On iPad, drag the Split View separator to change the browser size
• In a desktop browser, open or close the browser’s find-in-page UI
• In desktop Safari, open or close a tab in a situation that causes the tab bar to appear or disappear
• In a desktop browser, resize the browser window
• In a desktop browser, show or hide developer tools (docked to a window edge)

I’m starting to suspect that any change in viewport dimensions will trigger the bug.
