The current state of Sudo mode:

After you authenticate to perform a sensitive action, your session is temporarily in "sudo mode."
In sudo mode, you can perform sensitive actions without authentication.
GitHub has a two-hour session timeout period before prompting you for authentication again.
During this time, any sensitive action that you perform will reset the timer.

I found this related discussion from over 7 years ago: #23100

How can I manually exit that mode?
removing the restriction for several hours just doesn’t feel right. (e.g. the timeout in Unix sudo defaults to 5 minutes)

There still doesn't seem to be a way to exit this mode without signing out and no way of reducing the timeout.

There should also be an option to entirely disable "sudo mode" and require 2FA for each security sensitive action.
