I think a login and password are safe enough for me. I don't want to give away my phone number to add safety I don't understand or care about.
I tried to setup a desktop totp app to "handle"(?) this problem but it does not work.
Now I am looking for alternatives to github that can be used without a smartphone.
What If I lose the phone? I'd rather be able to contact support and use a keyword to reset my password - or email.
Maybe I should just upload everything to archive.org and be done with this complicated stuff that is eating away my limited time
And then I hear about "2FA lockout". Why should I do all this when 2FA lockout will take away access anyways?
Github asks me to do complicated stuff with obscure apps to keep access to my work. If I say I don't need this kind of safety I am patronized with acronyms I never heard about. I hate this.
I want a two class system of Github users. One that can keep up with all these changes and one that does not have to care.
It there was at least a step-by-step guide for enabling and recovering 2FA access that can be reproduced without smartphones or obscure apps. That would be very helpful.
Can I still delete my account without 2FA?
