I recently had two separate lengthy threads on copilot chat on GitHub web and I don't see either of them in my chat history. Is there a setting I need to enable (or something I've disabled) to get chat history?
Those threads have eaten a healthy chunk of my pro requests so I'd really like the content back.

Same here. Not just once or twice, but so many times. It's so random too. I thought it's because I'm using Github Student Pack and it relates to the token reset each month; apparently it's not. Hope they fix this issue soon.

There’s no button to turn on chat history for Copilot on the web.
Web chats aren’t always saved in GitHub history.
If you use ad-blockers or extensions, try turning them off.
Also try logging out and back in, and check you’re on the same GitHub account.
Sadly, if the chats weren’t saved by the system, they can’t be recovered.

I do use a bunch of them but it shouldn't be affecting GitHub. Do you know of anything in particular that may be interfering? Or has anyone else documented this behavior?

There is currently no setting on GitHub to guarantee that all Copilot web chats are saved, and if a particular chat session is missing from history, it cannot be recovered.

What is going on
GitHub Copilot web chats are not always persisted to your chat history, even when they used your Pro request quota.
​
There is no toggle or preference you can enable to force-save all web chats; the product simply does not guarantee that every session appears in history.

Things that can interfere
Browser extensions such as ad‑blockers or privacy tools can interfere with Copilot’s web UI and its ability to store or load chat sessions.

Using multiple GitHub accounts or being logged out and back in can make it look like chats disappeared if you later open Copilot under a different account.

Steps worth trying (for future chats)
Turn off ad‑blockers and similar extensions on github.com, then refresh and try new chats.
​

Log out of GitHub, log back in, and confirm you are on the same account you used for the lost conversations.
​

About already-missing chats
If the chats were never saved by the system (for example due to a bug or interference), there is no built‑in way for you or support to restore that content.

The behavior you are seeing has been reported by multiple users and is being treated as feedback/bug in the GitHub Community discussions.

Probably the same issue but I started a conversation today on GitHub Mobile app while I out and about. Came home to my web browser and I don't see the conversation at all to pick up on. I can only see the conversation in the mobile app on my phone. Same account. This makes it difficult to pick up if it's tied to my phone only.
